Discover Tang Restaurant

If you’re anywhere near 241 Fylde Rd, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston PR2 2NH, United Kingdom, it’s hard to miss Tang Restaurant. I first walked in on a rainy weekday evening after a long drive across Lancashire, not expecting much more than a quick dinner. Instead, I found a place that quietly raises the bar for Chinese dining in Preston.

The atmosphere feels relaxed but purposeful. Soft lighting, neatly arranged tables, and the comforting aroma of stir-fried garlic and ginger immediately set the tone. You can tell the kitchen takes timing seriously. During my visit, I watched a steady stream of takeaway orders leave the counter while dine-in guests were served without delay. That kind of coordination doesn’t happen by accident; it’s usually the result of experienced kitchen management and a well-practiced workflow.

The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. You’ll find familiar favourites like sweet and sour chicken, beef with black bean sauce, and crispy aromatic duck. However, what impressed me most was the balance of flavour. According to the UK Food Standards Agency, maintaining proper temperature control and ingredient freshness is essential for both safety and taste, and it shows here. My hot and sour soup arrived steaming, with a clear, layered broth that wasn’t overly thickened. The shredded vegetables still had bite, which suggests they’re added at the right stage of cooking rather than left simmering too long.

On another visit, I tried the salt and pepper king prawns. The coating was light and crisp, not greasy, and the seasoning had that addictive blend of chilli, garlic, and spring onion. Seafood can be tricky; the Marine Conservation Society often highlights the importance of sourcing and handling to maintain quality. While I can’t verify every supplier, the texture of the prawns indicated freshness and careful cooking. They were firm, juicy, and not at all rubbery, which is usually a sign of overcooking.

Portion sizes are generous, making it a popular choice for families and group dinners. I’ve seen tables sharing large platters of chow mein and fried rice, passing dishes around and comparing notes. The special fried rice, loaded with prawns, chicken, and roast pork, is particularly satisfying. It’s the kind of dish that tastes just as good reheated the next day, which says a lot about the quality of the ingredients.

What also stands out is consistency. I’ve spoken to a couple of regulars who live nearby in Ashton-on-Ribble, and their reviews echo my experience. One local told me she orders from Tang Restaurant at least twice a month because the flavours never fluctuate. In the restaurant world, consistency is everything. The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health frequently notes that repeat custom is often tied to reliable standards in both hygiene and preparation, and this place seems to understand that principle well.

Service is friendly and straightforward. Staff are quick to recommend dishes if you’re unsure, and they’re honest about spice levels. When I asked for something moderately hot, they suggested a Szechuan chicken and checked back after serving it. That simple follow-up makes a difference. It shows they care about how the meal is received, not just about turning tables.

In terms of location, being on Fylde Road makes it accessible whether you’re driving in from Preston city centre or heading home from work. There’s a steady takeaway trade, but dining in gives you the full experience of fresh-from-the-wok dishes arriving at your table.

Of course, like any busy local Chinese restaurant, peak times can mean a short wait, especially on Friday evenings. Planning ahead or calling in your order helps. Still, the slight delay feels reasonable considering the quality and freshness of the food.

For anyone browsing Preston restaurant reviews and searching for reliable Chinese cuisine with generous portions, well-balanced flavours, and dependable service, Tang Restaurant on Fylde Road earns its reputation one plate at a time.

  • A fantastic meal as we were passing through Preston driving back down south. Food was delicious, staff were so kind (even finding us heading back to the car with toddler's bear he left) and portions incredibly generous. One of the best Chinese restaurants can remember. Will definitely be back if passing!

  • We got set A menu which each person can pick one soup and get all other dishes on the menu. Everything was big portion and we couldn't finish all so if you are starving and craving for Chinese food I'd highly recommend to come here! Waiters were pretty friendly and nice too. They have so mamy other kinds of dishes too so I definitely will visit again and wanna try new things more.

  • Went to Tang for our daughters birthday. I have to say, firstly the staff are fabulous, the lovely guys were so helpful and happily took the surprise birthday cake and candles to 'hide' them while we had the meal. The service was 2nd to none, there was table wiping between every course and the staff made sure all was good for us. The food... Omg the crispy seaweed is to die for and the fillet steak hubby had was amazing. At the end of the meal, the young staff member brought out the cake, with the candles on and lit for us, happy birthday playing in the background... All in all I would highly recommend Tang restaurant for an eat in meal. Thanks to the staff who helped the birthday celebrations go to plan.
